What We Were Asked to Do
A beach birthday party for a 7-year-old with 25 children and 30 parents attending. The family wanted a proper party atmosphere on the beach — not just snacks — with separate menus that would genuinely delight both kids and adults.
Requirements:
- Fun, allergen-aware kids menu (no nuts, limited sugar)
- Sophisticated adult buffet running concurrently
- Custom unicorn birthday cake
- Cold drinks and fresh lemonade station throughout
- Beach-proof setup: no tablecloths in the wind, lightweight décor
The challenge: serving two completely different menus simultaneously to kids and adults at a beach location in 34 °C June heat — food safety and freshness were paramount.
How We Delivered the Project
We used insulated food boxes to keep everything fresh in the heat. The kids station was set up at child height with colour-coded labels for allergens. An adult buffet ran from a separate shaded gazebo.
Kids menu:
- Mini burgers with homemade ketchup and sweet potato fries
- Chicken skewers with honey-mustard dip
- Fruit skewers with yoghurt dip
- Rainbow sandwiches (nut-free)
- Unicorn birthday cake with natural food colouring
Adult buffet: grilled salmon, chicken Provençal, Mediterranean salads, cheeses, cold cuts, fresh bread.
Dedicated drinks station: watermelon cooler, mango lemonade, still and sparkling water — all kept cold in insulated dispensers.
Event Outcome
Every child ate enthusiastically — a rare achievement at a beach party. Not a single allergen incident. Adults appreciated having proper food rather than children's leftovers.
The birthday girl declared it "the best day ever." Parents in the WhatsApp group spent the next week tagging us with their photos. Three bookings followed from parents who attended.
